History

The Cyprus Turf Club was established in 1892 by British Officers on the English Jockey Club model, with main objective to improve the breeding of horses in Cyprus and the introduction of rules for horse racing. Those days, racing was held for entertainment purposes between British Officers and members of the Cyprus Police.

The Cyprus Turf Club is not involved with the operation of horseracing but only with its control to ensure its integrity, in other words racing is conducted fairly under the Rules and the spirit of sportsmanship and good order.

The Cyprus Turf Club is internationally recognised as the Authority controlling horse racing in Cyprus and is a Member of the International Federation of Horse Racing Authority.
